E-week Recap

For part of Engineers Week at Binghamton University, engineering organizations host events for kids. These events expose kids to some of the ideas in engineering. Additionally, these events give them a hands on activity to practice certain concepts of engineering. For E-Week BBE host the Wind Power Cars event. We attempted to demonstrate the Evolutionary Design Process. Given a limited amount of material the kids were asked to create a vehicle that used wind for power. Their initial designs were then tested in front of the group. The testing phase allowed the kids to see which designs were the most successful. The teams then modified their original design based on the observations from the testing phase. The new designs were tested a second time, and were found to be more successful than the original design.

Bioengineering Student Faculty Mixer
October 3rd 2011, UU215, 6 15PM

The Student Faculty Mixer was a success! We had 5 professors (including McLeod, Sayama, Lesperance, Mahler, and Fillo) and numerous graduate students (including Nick, Arnab, Dan, Jingyi, Ohad, Qionghua, Shwetana, Tejasvi, and Tom) give an introduction about their background and research interest to undergraduates. Everyone enjoyed the food and had the opportunity to grow their network.

Pictures will be uploaded soon.

Ice-Cream/Business Card Social
September 26th 2011, LNG332 (aka former senior design room), 6PM

In our first social event, we had ice-cream and exchanged business cards. It was a good icebreaker allowing freshmen and sophomores to ask upperclassmen about the bioengineering curriculum and Binghamton Bioengineers. We encouraged those who didn't have cards to get one since there are numerous benefits when networking or applying for jobs. Business cards will be entered into a raffle with prizes like a free BBE t-shirt or paintball admission so make sure you order a box of cards. We are the only major with business cards so let's continue the tradition.
